You may feel, if you visit Wadi Rum as part of your Jordan expedition, that you are stepping into a place that feels more like an alien planet. That’s because, technically, you are. Mars from ‘The Martian’, Jedha from ‘Rogue One’, Pasaana from ‘Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker’ and Arrakis from ‘Dune’, are locations that Wadi Rum has been used as in the filming of some of the most successful films from recent times, as well as a golden oldie ‘Lawrence of Arabia’.
Now let’s resolve the Kenya conundrum, what is the appeal of one of our most sold destinations? One answer is the stunningly beautiful Loita Hills. On one of our itineraries, you and your students have the opportunity to walk through the Maasai Mara with Maasai warriors, learning more about their traditions armed with a long hiking stick carved by the warriors from nearby trees. Part of the reason as to why the Loita Hills are such a magical place is the lack of human presence, be that litter lying across the grassy banks or streetlights ruining our view of the stars.
