After a spell in the City, Chris realised that an office was not for him. After a few Seasons in the Alps, expeditions all over the world led him to a degree in Science and Outdoor Education from Liverpool JMU. As part of this course his undergraduate dissertation subject was concerned with learning and gender on youth development expeditions, for which he received a 1st! He is very passionate about the power of experiential learning!
After ten years as a qualified teacher running outdoor education in schools (DofE and Ten Tors included), Chris made the break to small business and set up The Adventure Academy, which after Chris and Adrian joined forces became a part of the STC family. Chris is now our director of expedition programmes and is involved in every area of the company. That is when he's not bemoaning the perfect kite-surfing conditions he's missing out on or the odd bit of high altitude climbing and nights spent on a Dartmoor bivi!
He is an International Mountain Leader, Summer Mountain Leader, Winter Mountain Leader (Trained) and is Single Pitch Award qualified. In Chris, Adrian might have finally met his match in the everyday office cake eating competition.
