Poland

Destination Inspiration....

Poland has vast tracts of untamed wilderness to explore, amazing flora and fauna, fantastic mountain trekking and an interesting history. It's also hugely overlooked, meaning you can explore away from the crowds.

It is often easy to overlook what is right on our doorstep. As one of Europe’s best kept secrets, Poland will surprise you. It is perhaps the perfect short-haul destination for a wildlife and/or biology related tour. It also offers some of the best trekking in Europe.

Eastern Poland is sparsely populated, relatively undiscovered and in places truly wild. It is an area where four magnificent National Parks still contain a huge variety of endangered species living in their natural habitats. In the Northeast, amid the meandering lowland rivers and flooded meadows, are large populations of elk and there are places where wolves still roam.

Poland is also the last stronghold of European bison, whilst wolves, lynx, elk, deer, wild boar, beavers and an incredible array of smaller mammals, as well as some extraordinary birdlife can also be observed. Over 80% of all bird species in Europe have been recorded in Poland. Our specialist wildlife operator for Poland has access to some of the best guides in the country, as well as the ability to organise lectures and conservation work with local researchers.

The rounded, meadow-topped mountains of the far southeast are home to the largest wolf population in Europe which primarily hunt red deer. You will also find bears, bison, beavers and otters in the woodlands and river valleys. For trekking, the great Tatra Mountains are excellent for both day walks and extended trekking. We can arrange multi-day treks through the most impressive areas of the Tatras which are ideal for school groups and families as in introduction to expeditioning, as well as great for just a fabulous walking holiday
